Furnishing your place

What to buy, where it goes, and the handful of pieces that quietly change your mood, your light and your bills.

Quick answer

Open Buy from the bottom bar while you are at home, or press B. Everything you place adds its ★ to one decor score, and at 5 points the Fine House moodlet starts paying mood — 1.5 a point, up to +18. Selling an item returns 60% of its price, storage is free both ways, and going back to a paint or floor you already bought costs nothing.

How buying works

The Buy tab sits in the bottom bar with Home, Map and Phone, and on a keyboard it is B. It waits until you are home: during a shift it says “Buy opens when your shift is over”, on the road “Buy opens when you get home”, and from a cell, “Not from a cell 😅”.

  • The catalogue holds 67 pieces over ten tabs — Sleep, Kitchen, Bath, Comfort, Fun, Skills, Light, Decor, Pets and Luxury. Comfort is the one it opens on.
  • A card carries the footprint (a 2×1 sofa is two squares by one), “wall” for the posters, art, curtains and the air conditioner, “yard” for the generator and the helicopter, the price, and up to four ★ for decor.
  • Anything you cannot afford yet is greyed out, and the line the game writes about the piece is on the card.
  • Enter places it, the arrow keys nudge it, R turns it, Del sells it, C hides or shows the catalogue, and Esc backs out. On a phone you drag the piece and tap the floor.
  • Furniture can stand on top of a rug; two rugs cannot overlap.

A placement the game will not take comes back in its own words: “It doesn't fit there. Turn it or move it in from the edge”, “Something is already there”, “Keep the front door clear”, “Keep the doorway between rooms clear”, and for a second rug, “Rugs can't overlap other rugs”.

Selling, storing and moving

Take something off the floor and you get a choice. Sell returns 60% of the list price straight to your wallet, with a second tap first on anything Luxury. Store is the other option: the piece goes to Storage, and Storage is free both ways.

  • The 📦 Storage tab appears once you have something in it, and it explains itself: “Things you own that aren't placed. Putting them back is free.”
  • Move house and anything that does not fit the new floor plan lands in Storage rather than disappearing.
  • The Mini-flat, the Duplex and the Mansion keep their rooms apart, and a bed that ends up in the sitting room gets a “Move to the bedroom” button.

One perk is worth knowing here: Connected, at 10 ✨, takes 10% off everything in Buy mode.

What decorating is actually worth

Every piece with a ★ carries a decor value, and the game adds up the values of everything placed in your home. Whatever is sitting in Storage does not count. At 5 points you pick up Fine House — “Your place is looking good.” — which is worth 1.5 mood for each point, up to +18.

12 points is the ceiling; past that the moodlet cannot grow.

Under 5 points in the Face-me-I-face-you you are also carrying Face-me-I-face-you Life: −5 mood, “Tight room, noisy neighbours.”

The cheapest five points

The cheapest way there buys the same piece again and again — Buy has no rule against it: 5 × Wall Calendar comes to ₦1,500. If you would rather have four different pieces in the room, this set is the cheapest:

  • Potted Plant₦700 · 1★
  • Ankara Rug₦2,600 · 2★
  • Fela Poster₦600 · 1★
  • Wall Calendar₦300 · 1★

The four above come to ₦4,200.

Light and heat are decorating problems too

Two moodlets are decided by what is in the house rather than how nice it looks. After 7pm, with no light, no solar and no fuel in the generator, the game hands you NEPA Took Light 🕯️ −10: “Dark, hot and mosquitoes everywhere.” A Rechargeable Lamp in the house beats it, because that one glows without any light at all: “Rechargeable bulb that glows even when NEPA takes light.”

On a sunny afternoon with no fan or air conditioner running you get Lagos Heat 🥵 −8 instead: “It's hot. A fan (or an AC) would help.” A ₦2,200 Standing Fan ends it, and its card says so: “Beats the Lagos heat. Stops 'Lagos Heat' moodlet.”

Thirteen of the 67 pieces need light. When the light goes they stop, with “stopped — NEPA took light”.

One more nudge: an early goal is called “Buy something new”, its hint is “Open Buy and place an item”, and finishing it pays ₦1,000 and a ✨.

The four pieces that change the numbers

Four pieces in the catalogue are more than a price, a footprint and some ★: each one makes the action it hosts give you more, and one of them makes it faster.

PiecePriceWhat it changes
Gas Cooker₦8,400Cooking takes 70% of the clock and pays 15% more: a 60-minute pot of jollof is done in 42, and hunger fills further. Its card is honest about it — “4 burners. Cooks 30% faster. Tastes better.”
65" Smart TV₦38,400The same television session gives 40% more than it does on the 32-inch set.
Lekki King Bed₦28,800+10%, and the action itself is better: Sleep like Oba, 19 energy a game hour, with a Slept Like an Oba moodlet (+15 mood, six hours) on top.
Home Cinema Wall₦18,000,000+80%, the biggest multiplier of the four.

The bed is the one to read twice. A Foam Mattress restores 12 energy for every game hour and a Spring Bed 15, so a full eight-hour night on foam puts back 96 and can leave the bar short; the king bed's 19 an hour fills it with room to spare.

The boost goes one way only. It lifts what the action gives you, while the energy a workout drains and the hygiene a shower spends are charged in full, and skill practice runs at its own pace.

Paint and floors

The 🎨 Design tab is separate from the furniture and is the cheapest way to change how a room feels. Eight wall paints run ₦3,000 to ₦6,000, and seven floors run ₦5,000 to ₦15,000.

Nothing is paid until you tap Buy: “Tap a paint or floor to try it on first. You only pay when you tap Buy, and ones you've bought stay yours.” While you are trying one, the card reads “Trying on”; the colour on the wall reads “On now”, and one you own but are not using reads “Yours · free”.

That last label is the useful one: switching back to a colour you have already paid for costs nothing. Buying one for the first time also leaves you Feeling Myself 😎 — +10 mood for three hours.

One rule worth knowing before you spend: “Visitors see your paint and floors too. Kitchens and bathrooms keep their tiles.”

Hiring somebody else to do it

The Hustle board carries a 🛋️ Decorator job, “Decorate my house”. Set a fee anywhere from ₦1,000 to ₦10,000,000, pick a time — Now, In 1h, In 3h, In 6h or Tomorrow — and post it.

The decorator gets your keys for 60 minutes: “They can't buy, sell or take anything, and nothing changes until you accept their layout.”
